COSTA DEL SOL

The Costa Del Sol welcomes more than two million people a year who arrive at Malaga Airport and head to one of the many resorts located along this stretch of coastline from Gibraltar in the west to Nerja in the east. The Costa de Sol is made up of 162 kilometers of coastline along Mlaga province in Southern Spain. The most well known resorts lie west of Malaga beginning with Belamadena, Fuengirola and Mijas Costa Further along the coast lies Marbella with its famous marina at Puerto Banus Estepona, Sotogrande and finally Gibraltar however strictly speaking Sotogrande and Gibraltar fall into the Cadiz Province and Costa de la Luz but in Sotogrande considers itself as part of Costa del Sol. NERJA

Eastern Costa del Sol is a great place to get away from the busy beaches further west. The resort town of Nerja is located about 54 Killometers east of Malaga, with 16 kilometers of white sand beaches and sparkling waters. Once a small fishing village, Nerja has maintained a lot of its original character, though the town is constantly growing. The town centre remains remarkably unchanged. Full of whitewashed homes with geranium-lined windows, the narrow streets of Nerja still feel like the fishing village it once was. Despite the wonderful charm of the city center, the city's most remarkable feature is its famous Balcn de Europa ("Balcony of Europe"), a wide avenue that runs along a towering cliff and just outside Nerja are the have to seen Cuevas de Nerja (Nerja Caves)

BELAMADENA

Benalmadena is located to the west of Malaga and Torremolinos, although due to the expansion of both Benalmadena Costa and Torremolinos there is little distinction in terms of distance between the two. Benalmadena's tourist explosion occurred later than Torremolinos' and it has managed to avoid some of the uglier large concrete developments of the 1970's. Make no mistake though: this is still the heart of tourist country with crowded beaches, an abundance of British bars and restaurants to cater for most tastes.

MARBELLA

Marbella is the choice of the rich and famous. The resort is large and stylish, with around 28 km of beaches. Set against the stunning backdrop of the "La Concha" mountain Marbella is a mixture of old and new, with stylish apartments lining the seafront while typical Andalusian houses are to be found along the picturesque alleys of Marbella's Old Town. A favourite area to visit is the beautiful Plaza de los Naranjos in the Old Quarter, meaning "Orange Plaza." It is aptly named and especially beautiful when the orange blossoms are in bloom, and is also surrounded by restaurants and cafs making it a perfect place to unwind and watch the world go by.

Costa Del Sol question by lorinyork: Is the drive from Costa del Sol a beuatiful drive, or are we better off flying or taking the train?
Time is not an issue. We would stop for 2 nights at interesting spots along the way...Just want to know if the drive is worth it. Thanks

if time is no problem then you can take your time its a lovely drive but a long one if you are coming from Briton????and the drive well the train is lovely and you can relax more and enjoy the sights
